Saw this and immediately got thinking about our own crop of barley? We already make Guinness with the crop, but could we now have sustainable furniture too?
This furniture called Hey* is designed by Fabio del Percio, an Italian upholsterer and made from a durable yet soft transparent PVC, stuffed with hay from Iceland.
Hay is often used in furniture, but usually hidden! Fabio del Percio has provided a contemporary twist by allowing the hay to be the focus of the pieces. The Hey* armchair first made its appearance in Milan at this year’s Fuorisalone. The outside PVC cover is removable via a zipper beneath. The bottom of the chair has been punched with holes to allow the fragrant Icelandic hay to breath and fill and space.
Begs a few questions…how it will look a few years on? will it attract some extra (small) company in the living room? But love where its going. Thanks to Design Milk for sharing this piece with us.
