Kokeshi Matches

/ /

Don’t you just love these! It’s yet more cool stuff from Japan. Kokeshi: matches with faces, started as a product of pure creativity in 1994, as a part of a group exhibition. Kumi Hirasaka hand drew faces onto the heads of matches. The end results reflect the KOKESHI (traditional Japanese wooden dolls) and feature fab facial expressions, mighty moustached gentlemen and quirky creatures too, all of them bringing a smile to our faces! Today these are now mass produced and bring smiles to fire-starters everywhere. The team’s goal is “…to make something natural and something that gives people a chuckle” Now that’s a policy we like to live by too. Enjoy some pics of this great work courtesy of Hiromi Hirasaka or visit the site to see more too.
