National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, Laois

/ / /

It’s around the corner now and a hive of activity here in the countryside. Lots of excitement locally as final preparations are in place here in Ratheniska to host the National Ploughing Championships yet again this year. Ploughers will compete at the ‘Penhouse farm’ on the opening day (Tuesday 23rd) and the final day (25th) so we’re cooped up and expecting lots of visitors. If you are exhibiting or visiting the Championships be sure to let us know and we’ll pop around and visit you at your stand.

This is one of Europe’s largest shows and draws huge crowds from all over. Last year it was a Laois Gathering Event so drew an even bigger crowd than normal, making it the most successful ploughing championships ever – but this year promises to be even bigger and a whole lot better!

We love watching the ploughing champions perform and we wish our local hero Benny Greene the very best in his competition this year.

But there is so much more to see and do. Some of our favourites here include the hunt chase, dog shows, fluffy cattle, big-horned sheep, sheepdog trials, designers and their tractor driving, proper wellies, flat caps, (hot farmers!), foody displays, crafty showcases, meeting our agri pals and this year we’re looking forward to the official unveiling of Dúnmasc Genetics as they officially launch their new website and app designed here at Penhouse… watch this space

If you’re doing anything unusual, let us know and we can list it here and give you a wee plug

We’re giving away some Ploughing chocolate on site, daily as well as surprise brolly gifts, so look out for our pink posters (in the ground or dancing)and keep your eyes peeled for the Penhouse gals.

When we’re not out-standing in our field… we’ll be seeing you there!
